Bio

Mustafa Johnson, affectionately known as Coach Moose, serves as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Line Coach for Norco High School Football. He joined the Norco staff in 2023, bringing a deep well of college coaching experience, player development expertise, and personal ties to the local community.
Coach Moose began his football journey at Riverside City College (2010–2011), where he was a standout player and team captain. During his time at RCC, he earned honors including Most Improved Player, 1st Team All-Conference (twice), All-State, and Team Captain in both seasons. He transferred to Florida Atlantic University (2012–2013), where he was again named a Team Captain, earned Preseason All-League recognition by Tom Lemming, Postseason All-Conference USA honors, was awarded the C-USA Spirit of Service Award, and was named the 2013 Offensive MVP.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Administration of Criminal Justice, Johnson began his coaching career as a Defensive Line Graduate Assistant at FAU in 2014. His coaching instincts had already taken root during his senior season, when he stepped into a leadership role to support two freshmen thrust into the lineup due to early injuries, an experience he calls his true start in coaching.
In 2015, he served as an Offensive Line Graduate Assistant at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he worked under an impressive roster of coaching minds including Todd Monken (now Offensive Coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens), Luke Meadows, Pete Golding, and others who helped shape his early coaching philosophy.
From 2016 to 2022, Johnson was on staff at Riverside City College, where he coached the offensive line, tight ends, and served as the Run Game Coordinator and Academic Success Coordinator. His units consistently ranked among the top in the state, and his player mentorship extended well beyond the field.
Coach Moose has helped develop and mentor numerous athletes who advanced to Division I college programs and the NFL, including:
Rashad Hill (Vikings), Cam Tom (Saints), Norman Price (49ers/Panthers), Stone Smartt (Chargers), Cobe Bryant (Jets/SMU), Chim Okorafor (Eagles/Browns), Mason Murphy (USC/Auburn), Elijah Vaikona (USC), Kyle Scott (ASU), and many more, several of whom are proud Norco alumni.
A proud native of Corona, California, Coach Moose is driven by faith, family, and football. He is married to Jennifer Johnson, and together they are raising four beautiful children. Coach Moose’s core values, God, Family, and Norco Football, are the foundation of his coaching style and the legacy he is building in HorseTown USA.
